Be like Jo, Thank Communities Who Do Right by Us.
At about 9:30am I decided to put the brave pants on and take Max down to the Industrial Estate in Ashburton for a gander. Not far from home and, bonus, the huge empty sections had just been mowed – about 20-30 acres to meander gracefully across.
Tad windy but had me brave pants on so exited stage left out of driveway.
No worries. Love my Max
So solid and dependable, wise and brave.
Except the flea farted two blocks away. Max jumped. Hmmmm.
Scary fat sheep looked at him funny. Max Jumped. Hmmmmmmmmm.
Slowly settled into our road ride, the entrance to the estate is huge but you can’t see the adjoining road due to huge pines. But you can hear the traffic. And by golly we heard it. Then we saw it. And they saw us.
A convoy of young people in some heavy duty, purpose built, noisy off-road machines.
I had nowhere to go. Nerves about to exit body, hearts fluttering, palms sweaty.
The lead driver saw me and
OH MY GOODNESS.
He slowed down to a crawl and all the drivers behind followed suit.
No gear changes were done, no acceleration was done, no yahooing out the window. So respectful and so safety conscious. The tailend Charlie vehicle waited until they were at least 200m away before he ever so carefully changed down a gear and slowly increased speed.
Now – must admit here – I’m an older bogan at heart so to have these vehicles crawl past me was both heartwarming and gut wrenching to say the least!
I was absolutely blown away by how good these young kids were so I popped on the old bookface and did a wee post to NZOffroader thanking them.
Below is a copy quote of one reply:
“Tried to be as respectful as I could with my noisy exhaust but its awesome that you have given credit to us 4wders not very often 4wders get seen as good people. So much appreciated.” NZ OffRoader Group Member
This led to an open discussion on Pass Wide and Slow movement. Nearly 400 ‘likes’, multiple comments and a new audience for PWAS.
Stay tuned for more shenanigans with Max.
